Energy & Climate Hack will take place ONLINE
Fresh news!
The Energy & Climate Hack will now take place ONLINE on Tuesday 30th of August and Wednesday 1st of September 2021, as a parallel event to the Decarbonising Cities conference .
We are therefore happy to announce an extended registration deadline until the 27.8.
This hackathon brings together students from the United Kingdom and Switzerland as well as experts, hackers and people aspiring to make a difference. It exemplify how bottom-up locally embedded initiatives can actually tackle global issues and how these proposals, tested at a local scale, can help our society beyond their original purpose.
Take part and help shape the cities of the future!

This hackathon is organised in collaboration with Swisspower and the British Embassy. It will be held in english.

Hast du offene Daten für dein Projekt benutzt? Möchtest du CHF 1000.- gewinnen? Dann mach mit beim Open Data Student Award!
Offene Daten sind eine unabdingbare Folge der Digitalisierung. Darum hat sich der Verein Opendata.ch entschlossen, einen Studierenden-Preis zu stiften. Dieser Preis steht für herausragende Anwendungen von offenen Daten in Lehre und Weiterbildung. Als Sponsoren mit dabei sind die SBB, die Swisscom, sowie Netcetera.
Mit dem Award wird eine studentische Arbeit ausgezeichnet, die zuhanden der Gewinner mit einem Preisgeld in der Höhe von insgesamt CHF 1000 honoriert wird. Die Auszeichnung findet dieses Jahr an der DINAcon am 29. Oktober 2021, in Basel, statt.
Die DINAcon bietet jedes Jahr im Oktober ein umfangreiches Programm aus Keynotes, Sessions und einer Preisverleihung, um Einblicke in die Themen Open Source Software, nachhaltige IT und die offene Nutzung von Daten zu geben. Dadurch bietet sie einen Rahmen für den Austausch von Wirtschaft, Politik und Gesellschaft über eine gemeinsame digital nachhaltige Zukunft.
Vergabe-Kriterien
Die studentische Arbeit verwendet in beispielhafter Weise Open Data und/oder Open Government Data (OGD) mit Bezug zur Schweiz. Sie verwendet wo sinnvoll Datenvisualisierung und offene Standards (Dateiformate, Webdienste).
Das Ergebnis kann eine schriftliche Arbeit oder eine Applikation sein. Sie steht idealerweise für Open Science was auch Open Source einschliesst und ist reproduzierbar inklusive Rohdaten und Programmskripte. Bewertet werden die Neuartigkeit, die Kreativität, die Wirtschaftlichkeit, die Dokumentation, die Praxisrelevanz, wie auch die vorbildliche Nutzung von OD oder OGD. Der/die Verfasser/in der Arbeit erklären sich mit der Eingabe sowie der Veröffentlichung der Arbeit und der Medien (Fotos und Videos) einverstanden.

Teilnahmeberechtigung
Teilnahmeberechtigt sind alle Studierenden einer Schweizer Hochschule. Folgende Formen sind erlaubt:
- Studienleistung einer Hochschule (inkl. CAS)
- Übungs- oder Praktikumsarbeit
- Semesterarbeit, Bachelor- oder Masterarbeit
- Private Arbeit von einem aktuell immatrikulierten Studierenden
Nominierung und Einreichung
- Kurzbeschreibung (One Pager) inkl. Abbildung
- Studienleistung (PDF und/oder Link zur App)
Die Einreichung muss vor dem 09. Oktober 2021 vollständig und fristgerecht durch die Studierenden erfolgen. Einreichung per Mail an andrea.allemann@opendata.ch. Der Preis wird im Rahmen der DINAcon am 29. Oktober vergeben. Es wird erwartet, dass die Nominierten an der DINAcon teilnehmen werden. Über die Preisvergabe wird keine Korrespondenz geführt.
Open Data Student Award 2021 – Call for Papers
Did you use Open Data for one of your student projects? And are you interested in winning CHF 1000.-? Then participate in the Open Data Student Awards 2021!
Open Data is an inevitable consequence of digitalization, which is why the association Opendata.ch has decided to endow a student award. The award stands for outstanding applications of open data in teaching and further education. Sponsors are SBB, Swisscom and Netcetera.
The Open Data Student Award is given to a student’s work that uses Open Data and/or Open Government Data (OGD) in an exemplary way and contains some reference to Switzerland. The project must also use data visualization and open standards (file formats, web services etc.) wherever appropriate. The winner will be awarded an amount of CHF 1000.
This year’s award will be handed out at the DINAcon in Basel on October 29th, 2021. Every year in October, the DINAcon offers an extensive program of keynotes, sessions and an award ceremony to provide insights into the topics of open source software, sustainable IT and the open use of data. It thereby provides a framework for business, politics and society to exchange ideas about a shared digitally sustainable future.
The result can be a written work or an application. Ideally, it stands for Open Science, which also includes Open Source, and is reproducible, including raw data and program scripts. The novelty, creativity, commercial feasibility, documentation, practical relevance, as well as the exemplary use of Open Data or Open Governmental Data will be evaluated. The author(s) of the work agree to the submission as well as the publication of the work and the media (photos and videos).

Eligibility
All students of a Swiss university are eligible to participate. The following forms are allowed:
- Course work of a university (incl. CAS)
- Exercise or internship work
- Semester thesis, Bachelor or Master thesis
- Private work by a currently enrolled student
Nomination & Submission
- Short description (one pager) incl. illustration
- Project output (PDF and/or link to app)
Submission must be complete and on time by students before October 9th, 2021. Submission by mail to andrea.allemann@opendata.ch. The award will be presented at DINAcon on October 29. It is expected that the nominees will attend the DINAcon. There will be no correspondence regarding the award.

Opendata.ch/2021 Forum Call for Sessions
Opendata.ch/2021 Forum is all about openness – and we love living our mission! For this year’s forum (which is happening IRL) we’re inviting our ecosystem to host a session during the day. This can be a short workshop, a discussion round, a fireside chat, a think-lab session, or a presentation – the format is up to you!
While this year’s topic is “Shedding Light on the Invisible (Data)” – it’s not a necessary requirement that your session fits the topic. As long as your session covers data as the main topic you’re good to go!
Do you want to share your insights and skills or fuel an interesting discussion? Sign up for a slot during the Opendata.ch/2021 Forum by writing to: darienne.hunziker@opendata.ch and sharing the following information (deadline is September 5th):
- Your name, email address, and institution/company
- Title of the session
- A short description of the session you would like to host
- Material you need
- Min/max participants
- Language of your session (English or German)
Sessions will be 30-60 minutes. If you have other time requirements, please let us know. If you would like to give a presentation, please allow for a couple of minutes at the end of your presentation for questions.

Register to the Energy Data Hackdays!
We are happy to announce the fourth edition of Energy Data Hackdays! The Hackdays will take place on the 24th & 25th of September 2021 in Brugg, Switzerland.
Energy companies, public administrations and other organisations related to the energy industry will make data available for the development of creative ideas and initial prototypes. The focus will be on industry relevant topics like, among other, the energy grid as an interface to the smart communities, the role of the transmission grid in the decentralisation of the production sector, security of supply with a decentralised production, how to ensure data security or how to link network planning and urban development.
The hackdays are as usual free and open to any person interested in helping to shape the future of energy!
