FAQs:
What is a Hackathon?
A Hackathon is a two days collaborative workshop during which a community of interest tackles issues that a certain field of society is confronted with. Those themes are suggested by the ‘challenge owners’, representing an organisation or an institution willing to help carrying the results of the workshop.
Participation is free and opened to everyone, with or without programming skills.
What can you expect?
Two exciting, exhausting and challenging days are waiting for you! Together we will develop innovative solutions for various challenges around the Canton of Berne in about 48 hours.
In cooperation with various departments of the cantonal administration, we are preparing exciting topics and datasets for you, which specifically address needs of the departments and their administrees. On the first hack day, the departments’ representatives will present specific challenges, which you can join afterwards.
The Event
The event is completely free of charge for the participants. During the Data Hackdays BE 2021 we will use slack as a communication tool.
You will use our project platform hack.opendata.ch to document the progress and the results of your projects. For the final presentation of the results, your group will produce a few slides for which we provide a template.
Furthermore, various interactive online tools such as Wonder.me, Miro, Trello, etc. can be used. If you are not yet familiar with these tools, contact our support team in Slack and get assistance. You will receive the Slack invitation link in your registration confirmation email.
Participation
This event is entirely under the motto “Participation” and you are invited to take part on this exceptional event to decide on the future of Digital Berne. The Data Hackdays BE 2021 are open to all interested persons who want to think and work creatively around cantonal data. Let us come together and help the Canton Bern to become a better, smarter digital Administration!
All attendees, sponsors, partners, volunteers and staff at our hackathon are required to agree with the Hack Code of Conduct. Organisers will enforce this code throughout the event. We expect cooperation from all participants to ensure a safe environment for everybody. For more details on how the event is run, see the Guidelines on our wiki.
